The New Orpheum Performing Arts Center

Easily CMF's most ambitious project to date. Our team has been making great progress in expanding the old Orpheum Movie Theater in Tannersville into a new, state-of-the-art performance house designed by renowned architect Hugh Hardy. Already completed are the retaining wall behind the existing building, the exteriors of the new stage house, lobby and dressing rooms, and the subgrade electrical and mechanical work.

As the additional funds we need are raised we will work on completing the inside of the theater, which we expect to open in 2009. Meanwhile, we have begun making arrangements for the inaugural season.

The opening of The New Orpheum will enable CMF to bring a more diverse schedule of events to the Mountaintop ? more performances by modern dance companies and jazz ensembles, more presentations of technically challenging and larger cast musicals and plays. We appreciate your support as we continue to complete work on what will be a spectacular, 12,500 square foot theater.

At the Sugar Maples Campus

Our facilities at our Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts, located in the town of Windham, continue to grow. Additions in 2006-07 include:

  • the Sherwood House, CMF's first on-campus housing facility for students and faculty;
  • an 1,800 square-foot building for our summer arts youth program, where CMF offers workshops in theater arts, painting and drawing, and nutrition and physical wellness;
  • a new Visitors Center at our 4.5 acre Natural Agricultural Farm, which will soon include an extensive display of captioned photographs on the methods of Natural Agriculture, and a multi-arts installation illustrating the progression of the year-round harvest schedule;
  • and the Albert Podell Library, a recently donated collection of books which will be located in the newly renovated Sugar Maples offices.
